On Wednesday, Kenya participated in the global observance of World Environment Day.
The national celebration took place at the University of Embu.

Among the attendees were Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire.

Also present were Environment Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno, Emilio Mugo, Chairperson of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) board, and Mamo Boru Mamo, the Director-General.

This year’s focus centered on “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”
Activities included a tree planting initiative at Kiambuthi Wetland.

NEMA and the University of Embu collaborated to rehabilitate the wetland, aiming to establish a recreational facility and prevent further degradation.
