Speaking during an assessment visit to Naivasha Boys’ Boarding School, PS Bitok said that as of 4:00 pm on Tuesday, over 2,000 requests had already been processed and approved, with many more under review.

“So far, we have received over 100,000 requests for placement revisions. By 4 pm today, the ministry has approved more than 2,000,” he said.

He explained that review requests for Category One (C1) schools are being managed centrally in Nairobi, while applications for schools up to Cluster Four (C4) are being handled by line officers within the ministry to expedite the process.

PS Bitok also acknowledged minor digital disruptions earlier in the day but confirmed that services had been fully restored at the Konza data centre, allowing the exercise to continue smoothly.

“There were slight hiccups with the digital system, but it has now been restored at Konza,” he said.

He urged parents and learners to remain patient, noting that the seven-day review period officially began on Tuesday and all applications will be processed within the given timeframe.

“Parents should be patient as the seven-day revision window has commenced today, and I encourage everyone to make full use of the period provided,” Bitok added.

The Ministry of Education had announced on December 21, 2025, a seven-day review period for Grade 9 learners’ placements into senior schools following the release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results.

The exercise aims to address concerns from parents and learners dissatisfied with the initial placements.

The inaugural KJSEA exams were conducted nationwide in November, with results released on December 11, 2025.

According to the Ministry, the placement exercise is part of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system, designed to align learning with national development goals, global education trends, and equip students with skills for a competitive local and international job market.
