The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has taken action to suspend the operating licenses of two transport companies due to non-compliance with speed regulations mandated by law.
In an announcement made by Director General George Njao, Bungoma Line Safari Ltd and Smart Highways Sacco Ltd have been found in violation of these regulations. NTSA has instructed both companies to present their vehicles for inspection to ensure compliance with roadworthiness standards and to verify the proper functioning of installed speed limiters.

Director General Njao emphasized that the Authority expects full compliance from the companies with all requirements outlined in the Traffic Act and PSV Regulations. Specifically, Bungoma Line Safari Ltd has been instructed to submit 162 vehicles for inspection, which will include thorough checks on speed limit compliance. Additionally, all drivers associated with Bungoma Line Safari Ltd will be required to undergo road safety training.
Similarly, Smart Highways Sacco Ltd has been directed to submit 29 vehicles for inspection, with 27 of them undergoing speed limit compliance checks. All drivers from this sacco will also participate in road safety training.

Furthermore, NTSA has mandated that a total of 14 drivers from Bungoma Line and two drivers from Smart Highways undergo retesting before their licenses are reinstated. Additionally, all drivers from both companies must undergo road safety sensitization before being permitted to operate public service vehicles.
NTSA has advised law enforcement authorities to impound any vehicles found operating during the inspection period to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
