During the funeral service of the late marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County, President William Ruto made a commitment to assist Kiptum’s widow, Asenath Rotich, in various ways.
In addition to ensuring employment for Rotich, President Ruto announced plans to provide her with a new residence and financial support of Ksh.5 million to assist her in caring for their two children left behind by Kiptum.

The President emphasized the government’s dedication to supporting Kiptum’s family as a tribute to the late athlete’s remarkable achievements and the pride he brought to the nation.
“We have already provided five million shillings to this young lady, and the government will provide her with a nice house in addition to the one we have built here. Now we will give it to his widow,” stated Ruto.

Furthermore, Ruto expressed his intention to collaborate with the local governor to ensure that Rotich is offered employment suitable for her circumstances, allowing her to oversee the upbringing of Kiptum’s children.
Addressing the gathered mourners, President Ruto praised Kiptum as an ambitious, disciplined, and focused athlete who overcame numerous challenges to become an inspiration to many. He encouraged Kenyans to draw inspiration from Kiptum’s determination and resilience, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in achieving success.
