The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that its online tax platform, iTax, will undergo planned maintenance on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
In a public notice issued Wednesday, the authority said the exercise will run from 10:00 p.m. on Thursday to 2:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19. During this four-hour period, iTax will be inaccessible to all users.

KRA explained that the temporary shutdown is aimed at improving system efficiency and enhancing taxpayer services, while apologising for any inconvenience the downtime may cause.
The disruption will affect individuals and businesses who rely on the platform for filing returns, generating payment slips, applying for compliance certificates, and accessing other tax services.

According to KRA, the move is part of its wider digital modernisation drive designed to strengthen revenue collection, expand the tax base, and reduce reliance on manual processes.
The taxman assured the public that normal services will resume immediately after the maintenance window.

Introduced to replace paper-based filing, iTax allows Kenyans to register for different taxes, file returns, make payments via banks or mobile money, and update taxpayer records. The platform has since become an essential tool for nearly all taxpayers in meeting their obligations.
