Ruto: I Take Pride in the Kenya Navy’s Achievements

President William Ruto has expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of the Kenya Navy.

During his speech at the Kenya Navy’s 60th anniversary celebration in Mombasa on Saturday, he commended the unwavering dedication and efforts of the military in protecting the nation’s interests, both on land and at sea.

“As Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, I am incredibly proud of the KDF’s overall achievements, and especially of the Kenya Navy, the youngest of the three services,” Ruto stated.

He noted that since Kenya’s independence, the Kenya Navy has played a key role in various national and international peacekeeping missions, as well as significant operations.

These include Operation Exodus, Operation Mamba, Operation Linda Nchi, and the amphibious landing in Kismayu as part of Operation Sledgehammer, which resulted in the liberation of the city.

Ruto highlighted the Navy’s humanitarian contributions, such as providing aid during maritime disasters, conducting search and rescue operations, and evacuating people during national emergencies.

“The Kenya Navy’s impact goes beyond military actions,” he said. “Its involvement in disaster relief and search-and-rescue missions showcases its adaptability and commitment to the Kenyan people.”

He emphasized that these efforts reflect the Navy’s versatility and its readiness to serve as a vital resource in times of crisis.

The President also stressed the importance of cooperation between the Kenya Navy and other security agencies, notably the Kenya Coast Guard Service.

Together, he explained, they form the cornerstone of Kenya’s National Maritime Defense Strategy, ensuring the protection of the nation’s expansive coastline, resources, and crucial sea routes.

Looking ahead, Ruto shared his vision for the next 60 years, focusing on modernizing the fleet, adopting cutting-edge technologies, and enhancing personnel skills and operational capabilities.

“We must continue to strengthen our naval capabilities, embrace innovation, and build stronger partnerships,” he asserted. “Our priority will be to maintain high readiness to address the evolving security challenges of the future.”

In closing, Ruto paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Kenya Navy, honoring their sacrifices and commitment.

“We would not have achieved this milestone without their vision and hard work. Their legacy endures in all of you, and the entire nation is deeply thankful for your service,” Ruto concluded.
