Muthoni emphasized the strong link between environmental health and disease prevention, citing the recent cholera outbreak in Narok as a reminder of the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
She noted that maintaining clean surroundings and planting trees are crucial steps toward building a healthy population and achieving sustainable development.
During the event, over 15,000 fruit tree seedlings were distributed to local schools and community groups in support of the national greening initiative and President William Ruto’s ambitious plan to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.
“Fruit trees not only absorb carbon dioxide and prevent soil erosion but also offer nutritional and economic benefits to families. They represent a simple yet impactful way to promote both environmental sustainability and economic empowerment,” Muthoni said.
The PS added that tree planting contributes to climate resilience while supporting livelihoods, food security, and cleaner ecosystems across the country.
