Two people are believed to have died after a light aircraft crashed on Saturday afternoon in Ikanga village, Voi, Taita Taveta.
While details of the incident remain unclear, images and videos shared online showed the wreckage engulfed in flames. Eyewitnesses on social media reported that the aircraft exploded upon impact.
The aircraft had only two occupants, according to local police. This incident marks the latest in a series of recent light aircraft accidents.
On January 10, a light aircraft crash-landed in the Kwachocha area of Malindi along the Malindi-Mombasa highway. Police in Kilifi County confirmed that three people died—two boda boda riders and a passenger. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) Director General, Emile Arao, confirmed that the fatalities were all on the ground when the aircraft came down 2 km from Malindi airport at 2:52 pm.
On January 31, a light aircraft crashed in Kedong Ranch, Naivasha, killing two people. The victims, a man and a woman, were believed to be related. They had taken off from Wilson Airport in Nairobi and were en route to Mbaruk when the crash occurred at 2:15 pm, just an hour after departure. Bad weather and difficult terrain in the area hindered rescue efforts.
