The burial of Magdalene Kalembe, widow of former Kibwezi West MP Kalembe Ndile, was marred by a political altercation that escalated into chaos, causing attendees to flee for safety.
The incident occurred during the funeral ceremony at Mbui Nzau village in Kibwezi West, Makueni County, on Friday.
Tensions flared when Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse and Wiper nominated MCA Albanus Wambua engaged in a heated argument, almost leading to a physical confrontation.
Video footage seen by The Lower Eastern Times captured Mutuse gesturing aggressively towards Wambua, prompting him to stand up and approach the MCA. Security personnel intervened, separating the two politicians and escorting them out of the tent where dignitaries were seated.
The disruption forced mourners, including Makueni senator Dan Maanzo and Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, to seek safety.
Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and other family members shielded the casket from the chaos as some attendees pleaded for calm.
After the situation calmed down, the ceremony resumed, although the exact cause of the altercation between Mutuse and Wambua remains unclear.
