A group of seven Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers had a narrow escape from a life-threatening situation when their boat, loaded with food supplies, capsized in the Indian Ocean near the Kiwayu Chandani area of the Kiunga ward in Lamu County.
The soldiers, who had set out from the Manda camp in Magogoni, Hindi ward, were on a mission to transport essential supplies when the incident unfolded.
The boat succumbed to the strong waves and high-speed winds prevalent in the area, leading to its submersion.
Before local fishermen, who were in the vicinity, could reach the scene to rescue the soldiers, the vessel had already sunk.
Unfortunately, all the food provisions on board, including bags of rice, potatoes, sugar, and oil, were lost as the soldiers were unable to salvage any of the supplies from the sunken boat.
