KNCHR Chairperson Roseline Odede Dies After Short Illness

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has confirmed the death of its Chairperson, Roseline Odhiambo Odede, who passed away after a short illness.

In a statement from KNCHR Vice Chairperson, Dr. Raymond Nyeris, the commission expressed profound grief, describing Ms. Odede’s death as a significant loss to both the agency and the nation as a whole.

“It is with great shock and sadness that I announce the death of Roseline Odhiambo Odede, HSC, Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, which occurred yesterday, Friday 3rd January, 2025, following a brief illness,” the statement read.

The commission also conveyed its heartfelt condolences to Ms. Odede’s family and friends, acknowledging the immense void left by her passing.

“As a Commission, we were honored to serve under Roseline Odede’s leadership as Chairperson. Her sudden death is a major loss to both the Commission and the country,” Dr. Nyeris said.

“During this time of mourning, we offer our deepest condolences and sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew her. May the memories of her remarkable service provide comfort and strength during this challenging time,” the statement concluded.

Funeral details have not yet been disclosed.
