Kitui: Three Herders Killed in Suspected Revenge Plot

Security agencies have launched investigations into a suspected revenge attack in Kitui County that reportedly left three herders dead.

According to police, the incident is believed to be linked to an earlier killing on March 29, 2026, where a 44-year-old man was discovered dead with a slit throat inside a reserve. The incident sparked fear and heightened tensions among local communities, with some residents suspecting the attackers may have come from outside the area.

Authorities say that in what appears to be a retaliatory attack, a group of herders allegedly staged an ambush at a watering point known as Itimba and killed three men the following day. Police officers visited the scene but did not find any bodies.

Investigations later revealed that the bodies of the victims were reportedly taken away by members of their community and transported to Boka in Tana River County, where they are believed to have been buried.

Local administrators in Tana River confirmed the deaths, identifying the victims as Musa Abdirahaman Omar (40), Mohammed Aden Ahmed (40), and Abdi Dakane (60).

The killings have raised fears of further retaliation, prompting security agencies to step up operations in the region. Patrols have been intensified to safeguard herders and prevent additional attacks.

Police say investigations into both the initial killing and the suspected revenge attack are ongoing, noting that such incidents in the area are often linked to disputes over grazing land and water resources.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police in Bungoma County are investigating the death of a 41-year-old woman following a late-night altercation at a bar in Kimilili Sub-County.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. on March 30, 2026, at Bernard Bar in Kikwechi Village. The deceased, identified as Linet Omonya, worked at the establishment.

Police reports indicate that her former boyfriend allegedly confronted her at the bar, leading to an argument that escalated. During the confrontation, the man is said to have grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the chest, resulting in her death at the scene.

Officers who responded found her body on a couch with a stab wound. It was later moved to Sante Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination.

The suspect has since been arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue.
