A tense situation unfolded in Kirinyaga County on Friday as local leaders and residents, led by Senator James Murango and Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina, stormed a police station demanding explanations regarding the release of a chief accused of defiling a 13-year-old minor.
The irate group forcefully entered Baricho Police Station, seeking answers from officers who were allegedly involved in facilitating the chief’s release.
Senator Murango, addressing the officers, identified himself and demanded to know the identities of the OCS and the DCI, questioning why they released the Giacong’e chief, whom he described as a threat to the community.
Similarly, the leaders expressed concern about the well-being and whereabouts of the allegedly abused minor, criticizing the manner in which the chief was released. They also called for the chief’s arrest for allegedly assaulting the victim’s sister.
“We are unaware of the fate of the girl who was reportedly defiled. There are concerns whether she may have been harmed, and we question why the chief was released without facing charges in court. Additionally, he is accused of assaulting the victim’s sister after the incident was disclosed to the public,” stated Njeri.
Following the confrontation, Murango and Njeri were directed to the office of the Kirinyaga West Sub-county Police Commander, who explained that the chief was released on a Ksh.30,000 police bond, as per instructions from the County Investigating Criminal (CIC) Officer.
