Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has been arrested by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over alleged graft, following early morning raids at his home and county government offices.

As part of the operation, nine senior county officials were also taken into custody. The arrests are linked to suspected embezzlement of public funds and procurement-related conflicts of interest.
EACC officers reported recovering important documents and electronic gadgets believed to be key to the investigation.
The crackdown comes after sustained pressure from Kiambu leaders to investigate the governor, who succeeded Ferdinand Waititu—currently serving time for a Ksh588 million corruption conviction.
In February, Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa called on the EACC to examine the county’s switch from an automated to a manual payment system, claiming it had allowed the infiltration of ghost workers and the loss of Ksh390 million.
