The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of part of the Marigat–Loruk road in Baringo County after rising waters from Lake Baringo submerged a section of the highway.
In a public notice shared on X, KeNHA said the affected stretch lies between KM 29+800 and KM 40+000, warning that the flooding posed a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians.

Acting Director General Luka Kimeli said the move was necessary to safeguard lives.
“This closure is due to flooding caused by the rising water levels of Lake Baringo,” he stated.
The submerged section has been declared impassable, and KeNHA has provided a graded diversion at KM 29+200 linking to the Loruk–Chemalingot road at KM 2+400. Motorists have been advised to use this alternative route until further notice.
KeNHA also cautioned the public against attempting to access the flooded area, stressing the danger involved. The agency said it is monitoring the situation and will reopen the road once water levels drop to safe levels.

The authority also oversees weighbridge operations and manages road safety across the country through its Nairobi headquarters, ten regional offices, and three corridor management offices.
