Kasmuel McOure Remembers Raila Odinga’s Kindness and Support

Youth activist Kasmuel McOure has shared emotional memories of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a generous mentor and father figure who went out of his way to support those around him.

In an interview on Iko Nini Podcast, McOure recounted Raila’s kindness, saying the ODM leader often helped him financially without ever being asked.

“The least amount Raila Odinga ever gave me was Sh100,000. I never even had to ask,” he revealed.

He added that Raila consistently looked out for his welfare and treated him like family.

“He spoiled me. Every time I travelled, he took it personally and made sure I was comfortable,” McOure said.

According to the activist, Raila even provided funds for his trips abroad, including a recent one to the United States.

“Before my last trip to the US, Baba gave me around 8,000 dollars. He always made sure I was okay,” he noted.

McOure said many were surprised to see him at international forums, unaware of the behind-the-scenes support he received from the ODM leader.

He described Raila’s passing as a deeply personal loss, calling him a man of empathy, loyalty, and unmatched generosity.

Beyond his personal ties to Raila, McOure has emerged as one of Kenya’s most vocal Gen Z activists, known for championing justice, transparency, and good governance. He played a key role in the 2024 youth-led protests demanding accountability and reforms in public policy.

Despite criticism from some peers who accuse him of being too close to government officials, McOure insists that dialogue and accountability must go hand in hand to achieve meaningful change.

A musician, composer, and financial analyst, McOure has earned global recognition through the Mandela Washington Fellowship for his leadership and innovation.

Reflecting on Raila’s life, he said the late leader exemplified true leadership rooted in compassion and humanity.

“Raila taught me that leadership is not about power, but about caring for people,” he said.

Raila Odinga passed away on October 15 while undergoing treatment in India and was laid to rest on October 19 at his rural home in Bondo.
