Kalonzo Joins Former Senator Kivuti’s Family to Honor His Late Son

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka attended a memorial service on Thursday afternoon at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi to honor the late Eric Mutugi Kivuti, the son of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, who passed away the previous week.

In his emotional tribute, Kalonzo described Eric, affectionately known as “The Contemplator,” as a cherished person, a sentiment echoed in the heartfelt messages from his friends, family, and colleagues.

“I pray for God’s merciful guidance and comfort for Senator Kivuti and his family during this difficult time. May they find solace in the words of Apostle Paul from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: ‘God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others,'” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper Party leader expressed his condolences and wished for Eric’s soul to rest in peace.

Upon the news of Eric’s passing in December 2024, President William Ruto also offered his condolences, describing the young man’s life as one that ended too soon.

In a statement, President Ruto said, “I join the family of Hon. Lenny Kivuti in mourning the tragic loss of his beloved son, Eric Mutugi. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kivuti family as they navigate this difficult time. Eric’s light and potential were taken far too soon. May God grant the family and friends strength, comfort, and peace.”

Lenny Kivuti, who served as Embu Senator from 2013 to 2017 and as a Member of Parliament, shared that his son passed away at MP Shah Hospital following a brief illness.

“I am deeply saddened. I lost my beloved son, Eric Mutugi, at MP Shah Hospital yesterday after a short illness. We have canceled our family’s Christmas celebrations. Please keep us in your prayers as we make funeral arrangements for him. May God bless his soul,” Kivuti posted on Facebook.
