Jowie, also known as Joseph Irungu, is appealing his death sentence for the murder of Monica Kimani, arguing that it violates his constitutional rights.

Additionally, he challenges a specific section of the Criminal Procedure Code that denies individuals sentenced to death the right to bail pending appeal, urging its nullification.
Jowie asserts that the sentence violates his fundamental right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. He also demands compensation for the infringement of various constitutional articles.
The murder, for which Jowie was convicted, occurred in September 2018, with the court determining it as a deliberate and premeditated act rather than a response to provocation.
