The airport was named the African Cargo Airport of the Year at the STAT Times International Awards for Excellence in Air Cargo.

The award ceremony took place on the evening of Thursday, February 20, at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi, as part of the Air Cargo Africa and Transport Logistics Africa 2025 conference, a prominent event celebrating innovations and excellence within the air cargo sector.

The recognition was based on JKIA’s exceptional cargo infrastructure, systems, services, and its dedication to excellence in air transport.

Winning the African Cargo Airport of the Year award boosts JKIA’s standing, enabling it to compete with some of the most established and busiest cargo airports in Africa.

JKIA Honored as African Cargo Airport of the Year at STAT Times Awards

Dr. Rose Koros, the General Manager of JKIA, accepted the award on behalf of the airport, accompanied by Jacob Bwana, Cargo Manager, and Debra Ondaba, Manager of Product and Brand.

In her remarks, Koros expressed her appreciation for the honor, emphasizing the significant role JKIA plays in facilitating trade and logistics across Africa. She also reaffirmed the airport’s commitment to operational excellence and ongoing improvements in cargo handling.

The award highlights JKIA’s importance as one of Africa’s busiest and most efficient cargo hubs. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, the airport handled an impressive 112,000 tons of cargo, underscoring its vital role in supporting regional and global trade.

Additionally, JKIA has been key in handling high-value exports, including fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and specialty goods, which make up 80% of Africa’s air cargo exports.

This achievement comes at a time of significant growth in Africa’s air cargo sector, driven by initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which has increased intra-African trade by 25% and boosted transport demand by 50%. JKIA’s strategic location and robust infrastructure have helped it position itself as a key player in meeting this growing demand.
