Heavy overnight rainfall in parts of Nairobi disrupted several flights operated by Kenya Airways, with some aircraft forced to divert to Mombasa due to poor weather conditions.
In a customer update released on Saturday, the airline said the intense downpour affected scheduled operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, resulting in delays and adjustments to flight schedules.

The airline explained that the heavy rains experienced in Nairobi and surrounding areas caused disruptions to a number of its planned flights. Because of the adverse weather, some aircraft had to be rerouted to Mombasa, which also affected other flights scheduled for the day.
Kenya Airways cautioned passengers departing from the country’s main airport that flight schedules could continue to change as operations gradually stabilise.
The national carrier apologised to travellers for the inconvenience, noting that the disruption was caused by weather conditions beyond its control, but expressed hope that normal operations would resume later in the day.
The flight interruptions come amid heavy rains that lashed several parts of Nairobi overnight, leading to flooding that rendered some major roads impassable and left hundreds of commuters stranded for hours.

In many low-lying areas, intense rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems, causing water to accumulate on roads and disrupt both traffic and public transport as motorists struggled to navigate flooded streets.
Public service vehicles were unable to operate on some routes due to rising water levels, while pedestrians were forced to wade through knee-deep water in certain areas.

Earlier, the Kenya Meteorological Department had warned that rainfall would intensify in early March, increasing the likelihood of flooding in several estates and low-lying parts of the capital.
Authorities have since urged motorists and pedestrians to remain cautious and avoid driving or walking through flooded roads as the rains continue. 🌧️✈️
