Over half of the smartphones currently on the Safaricom network are Xiaomi devices, underscoring the Chinese brand’s rising influence in Kenya’s mobile phone market.
The information was shared on Friday during the Nairobi launch of the Redmi Note 15 Series, which includes three models targeting users seeking affordability, performance, and durability.

At the event, Bruno Kimutai, Safaricom’s lead for terminals operations and planning, revealed that Xiaomi now represents more than 50 percent of smartphones on Safaricom’s network.
He credited the brand’s success to its use of artificial intelligence technologies, which enhance user experience across phones and smart devices.
“Safaricom will continue collaborating with Xiaomi to make affordable smartphones accessible to Kenyan consumers,” Kimutai said.
Xiaomi International Country Manager Matt Huang added that the Redmi Note 15 Series is designed to meet a wide range of user needs, offering stable performance, advanced camera capabilities, durable design, and high-quality displays.

He emphasized that the devices are built for daily use while maintaining reliable performance and imaging features.
Xiaomi is currently the third-largest smartphone brand in Africa, holding a 12.6 percent market share, and continues to experience steady growth across the continent.
