Governor Kahiga Urges MPs to Reject Tax Bill

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has aligned himself with a group of Kenyans expressing strong opposition to the Finance Bill 2024.

The bill, designed to finance President William Ruto’s administration’s budget for 2024/2025, introduces a series of taxes.

Speaking at a church service in Nyeri, Kahiga asserted that the Kenyan populace does not support the bill and urged members of parliament to reject it.

Addressing the congregation at AIPCA Church, Nyeri Town, Kahiga criticized the government’s intention to levy taxes on vehicles, deeming it unacceptable.

He emphasized that imposing taxes on items citizens had purchased without government assistance was unjustifiable.

Challenging MPs to heed the will of the people, Kahiga insisted that the Finance Bill should be dismissed. He called on the Kenya Kwanza government to prioritize practical deliverables over ambitious projects, highlighting the burden of excessive taxation on citizens.

In a pointed message directed at Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, who was in attendance, Kahiga urged officials to acknowledge the public’s discontent and address the issue accordingly.
