Gambia head coach Jonathan McKinstry has cautioned his players to brace for a tough battle against Harambee Stars in their upcoming qualifier.
“Kenya is strong, passionate, and backed by a lively home crowd. We’ve prepared well and will fight until the very end,” McKinstry said, stressing the need for mental strength to withstand Kenya’s pace and transitions.
He urged his team to stay disciplined and organised defensively while exploiting counter-attacking chances. Playing at Kasarani, he noted, gives Kenya an edge, but Gambia is determined to stay focused despite the pressure.
“The atmosphere will be intense, but we have trained for this. Every player understands the stakes, and we’ll push until the final whistle,” he added.
Kenya, currently fourth in Group F with six points, faces Gambia on Friday and Seychelles on Tuesday. Cote d’Ivoire lead the group with 16 points, followed by Gabon on 15, and Burundi on 10. Gambia and Seychelles remain in the lower spots.

Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat has emphasised the importance of maximising points in both fixtures, warning against underestimating any opponent.
“Gambia are tactical, Seychelles are compact—we must remain sharp and disciplined,” he said, highlighting the need for goals and consistency.
McKinstry, while praising Kenya’s intensity, reaffirmed his side’s readiness: “Kenya will attack relentlessly, but we are prepared physically and mentally. We’ll defend solidly and seize any opportunity to strike back.”
Gambia will look to Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh as one of their key players in the contest.
