Gachagua to Unveil Mt. Kenya Political Report on February 9

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has confirmed plans to release an interim report on the political direction of the Mt. Kenya region on February 9, 2025.

The announcement was made during a church service in Mathioya, Murang’a County, where Gachagua shared that the report would be unveiled at a roundtable discussion with journalists from various media outlets.

Gachagua explained that he has been holding extensive consultations with local leaders at his Mathira residence to gather input on the region’s political future. He had initially promised to finalize these discussions by January 31, 2025, but clarified that the report would be ready the following Sunday.

“The consultations have expanded beyond just Mt. Kenya to include representatives from regions such as Maa, Kisii, Nyanza, and Western Kenya,” he stated, adding that the response had been overwhelming. “I apologize for the delay, but the feedback has been far greater than anticipated, and I’m now incorporating insights from leaders across the country.”

Gachagua, who was impeached in October 2024, has been vocal about his belief that the current government is marginalizing Mt. Kenya leaders and diminishing the region’s political influence. To address this, he has been engaging with various figures, including church leaders, businesspeople, and professionals, in an effort to chart a new political course for the region.

Speculation is growing that Gachagua might announce the formation of a new political party or forge a broader alliance with other regional leaders as part of his strategy for the 2027 elections. His upcoming report is expected to play a key role in shaping the future political dynamics of Mt. Kenya and the wider country.
