Opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, are expected to attend the burial of Terry Wanjiru Kariuki, widow of the late politician J.M. Kariuki, in Gilgil, Nakuru County.
Wanjiru passed away on October 30, 2025, while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

In a tribute, the Kariuki family described her as “not just the wife of a national hero, but a shining light in her own right.”
They eulogized her as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who lived with grace, strength, and kindness.

The late J.M. Kariuki was a socialist leader in President Jomo Kenyatta’s government, serving in various roles from independence in 1963 until his assassination in 1975.
