Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has continued holding political meetings at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri County, with his latest session involving MCAs from Nakuru County.
Gachagua explained that these meetings are part of his ongoing effort to engage with the public, emphasizing that the people are the ultimate holders of power, as stated in the constitution.
“The leaders briefed me on the county’s socioeconomic issues, but more importantly, they highlighted the priorities of the people, or Wanjiku,” Gachagua said.
He noted that the meeting with the ward representatives was especially valuable, as they are the leaders who have the closest connection with the electorate at the grassroots level.
“Their voices reflect the true concerns of the common citizens,” he added.
“I will continue engaging with leaders from both grassroots and national levels to compile a comprehensive report on the country’s economic situation and the way forward,” Gachagua said.
The former DP has previously mentioned that part of the reason he fell out with President William Ruto, resulting in his impeachment on October 17, was his commitment to listening to the concerns of ordinary citizens.
After his ouster, Gachagua initially attended funerals and church events to address Kenyans, but in recent days, he has returned to his Wamunyoro home, turning it into his base as he prepares to challenge his impeachment in court.
A three-judge bench, consisting of Justices Eric Ogola, Frida Mugambi, and Anthony Mrima, has rescheduled the hearing of over 30 petitions challenging his impeachment to January 23.
Some political analysts believe Gachagua’s choice of his rural home for his political activities is a strategy to avoid government surveillance.

He has previously claimed, without evidence, that he was being followed by what he believed were state agents in unmarked vehicles.
On Monday, Gachagua met with Maa leaders from Kajiado and Narok counties.
“I have taken note of the issues they raised, which not only affect the Maa community but the entire nation,” he shared on X.
