Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced the government’s commitment to assist Kenyan athletes in realizing their maximum potential through the Talanta Hela Initiative.
During an event on Sunday at the Tinderet Barng’etuny Mountain Run National Championship in Tinderet Constituency, Nandi County, Gachagua stated that the unique competition held in challenging mountainous terrain attracted numerous athletes eager to explore their talents. He emphasized that through the Talanta Hela Initiative, athletes would receive the necessary support to fully harness their potential.
Gachagua acknowledged that Kenyan athletes have been a significant source of inspiration for generations due to their resilience and determination to excel globally in their respective fields. He highlighted the athletes as shining lights and role models for the youth, embodying the outcomes achievable through hard work.
The Deputy President commended the organizers of the competition, including Tinderet MP Julius Melly, who serves as the Patron of the Mountain Run, Athletics Kenya, and the Nandi County government. He also congratulated the winners of the Senior Men and Women Races, Fredrick Domongole and Sharon Cherotich.
Accompanying Gachagua were Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Athletics Kenya Chairman Jackson Tuwei, Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum, Nandi Woman MP Cynthia Muge, and various other MPs and dignitaries.
The event also saw the presence of Mountain Run Chairman Peter Angwenyi, Chepsaita Marathon Patron Farouk Kibet, National Police Service Commission Chief Executive Officer Peter Lelei, Nandi County Assembly Speaker Philemon Melly, political leaders, and Members of County Assembly from Nandi County.
