The project is designed to ease rising passenger numbers and boost the airport’s ability to handle growing demand in both passenger and cargo traffic.

As part of the expansion, the current terminal capacity will be increased from 7.5 million to 12 million passengers annually. A new terminal will also be constructed to accommodate an additional 10 million passengers, raising JKIA’s total capacity to 22 million passengers per year.

The development comes after the government cancelled a previously proposed Sh230 billion modernization deal with the Adani Group, following public backlash, protests, and legal challenges.

The new CRBC-led project is expected to accelerate JKIA’s transformation into a regional aviation hub and improve overall efficiency at Kenya’s busiest airport.
