EPRA Drops Diesel Prices but Kerosene Shoots Up

EPRA has announced new fuel prices that will apply across Kenya from May 19 to June 14, 2026, following concerns raised by public transport operators over possible fuel adulteration caused by the large price gap between diesel and kerosene.

In the latest review, diesel prices in Nairobi have dropped by Sh10.06 per litre, while kerosene prices have risen sharply by Sh38.60 per litre. The price of super petrol remains unchanged.

Motorists in Nairobi will now buy diesel at Sh232.86 per litre, kerosene at Sh191.38, and super petrol at Sh214.25 per litre.

Other towns have also recorded similar price adjustments, depending on transport and distribution costs. In Mombasa, super petrol will sell at Sh211.09, diesel at Sh229.58, and kerosene at Sh188.09 per litre. Nakuru residents will pay Sh213.15 for super petrol, Sh232.27 for diesel, and Sh190.81 for kerosene.

In Eldoret, prices stand at Sh213.92 for super petrol, Sh233.09 for diesel, and Sh191.63 for kerosene. Kisumu prices are nearly identical, with super petrol retailing at Sh213.91, diesel at Sh233.08, and kerosene at Sh191.63.

Siaya motorists will pay Sh214.10 for super petrol, Sh233.30 for diesel, and Sh191.84 for kerosene. Meru records some of the highest prices, with super petrol at Sh218.89, diesel at Sh237.85, and kerosene at Sh196.35 per litre.

In Isiolo, super petrol will cost Sh218.67, diesel Sh237.59, and kerosene Sh196.11, while Nyeri residents will pay Sh216.12 for super petrol, Sh234.87 for diesel, and Sh193.38 for kerosene.

According to EPRA, the changes were made to reduce the likelihood of illegal fuel mixing and to respond to concerns from the transport sector. The authority added that taxes and levies such as VAT, excise duty, road maintenance levy, and petroleum development charges continue to heavily influence pump prices.

EPRA says it will continue reviewing fuel prices monthly, with future adjustments depending on global oil markets and local economic conditions.
