Embu: Blaze Renders Families Homeless

Several families in Shauri Slums, Embu Town, are now grappling with homelessness following a devastating fire that ravaged their dwellings on Monday afternoon.

Despite the conflagration erupting at 2 PM, fortunately, there were no reported injuries. However, the inferno swiftly engulfed the homes, leaving behind a trail of destruction of undetermined value.

The rapid spread of the flames prompted neighbors and bystanders to intervene urgently to prevent further escalation of the blaze, averting potential damage to adjacent structures.

Mercy Wanjiru, one of the affected residents, recounted receiving a distress call from a neighbor alerting her to the unfolding disaster. Regrettably, upon her arrival, her residence had already succumbed to the fire, leaving nothing salvageable.

” I am appealing to the government for assistance to help me rebuild my life,” implored Wanjiru, a mother of four. Local residents voiced their frustration with the sluggish response of the County Fire Department, alleging that prompt action could have contained the fire before it spiraled out of control.
