Liverpool player Darwin Núñez Involved in an Altercation with Fans

Liverpool footballer Darwin Núñez has been involved in a row with football fans after his Uruguayan national team was admitted on Wednesday evening.

The striker was seen facing Colombian fans on the field after the final whistle in the semi-finals of the Copa America.

According to the Uruguayan station El País, chaos broke out near where friends and family members of the players were sitting. Núñez has not yet commented publicly on the incident.

Television cameras and fans captured images of Núñez climbing over the railing and into the packed arena at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was then seen confronting Colombian fans while others tried to stop him. Other Uruguayan players were reportedly involved in the incident.

Uruguay captain José María Giménez said the players were trying to defend their families, describing the situation in the crowd as “catastrophic”, Reuters reported.

He continued: “There were no police and we had to defend our families. This was the fault of two or three people who had a few drinks and didn’t know how to control themselves.

Núñez was seen hugging his son on the field after the altercation. South American soccer confederation Conmebol said it “strongly condemns any act of violence that affects football.”
