A Magistrates court has turned down a plea by the DCI to hold televangelist David Gakuyo for four days while further investigations are conducted into allegations of misappropriating Sh1 billion from members of his Ekeza Sacco.
Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo of Milimani instead ruled for Gakuyo’s detention for one day, effective today.
Citing the advanced stage of the investigations, the magistrate ordered Gakuyo to appear in court on Monday next week for the arraignment.
According to police reports, Gakuyo has been under investigation for conspiracy to commit a felony, obtaining money through false pretenses, theft, and money laundering involving an amount exceeding Sh1 billion.
