More than 50 passengers escaped without injury after a group of boda boda riders vandalised and set ablaze a bus following a fatal road accident in Salgaa, Nakuru County.
According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when the bus struck a boda boda rider, killing him on the spot. The bus, which was travelling from Nakuru towards Eldoret, reportedly hit the rider as the driver attempted to overtake.

The driver stopped at the scene at around 1:00am to respond to the accident. However, an angry mob of boda boda riders descended on the 65-seater Scania bus, pelting it with stones before setting it on fire.
Police officers who arrived shortly after found the vehicle already engulfed in flames, and nothing was salvaged as the bus was reduced to a shell. While no passengers were injured during the accident or the ensuing chaos, their belongings were destroyed in the fire.
The passengers were left stranded in the cold for several hours before being escorted to a nearby police station to record statements. The burnt wreckage was later towed away.

The incident caused major traffic snarl-ups along the busy Salgaa stretch for hours before normal flow was restored. Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The destruction of the bus has drawn condemnation from the Motorists Association of Kenya and reignited concerns over the growing cases of mob justice involving boda boda riders after road accidents.

Police noted that this is the latest in a series of similar incidents over the past two months, during which at least five vehicles have been torched following fatal crashes in Nairobi and along Thika Road.
Authorities say all cases remain under investigation, amid renewed calls for tighter regulation of the boda boda sector to curb such violence.
