Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo, through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), has disbursed Sh6 million to support local women and youth groups under the Wezesha Mama initiative.
The event took place at Emukhuyu Primary School in Nambale.
A total of sixteen groups received grants of Sh100,000 each, while 50 individuals were provided with sewing machines. Additionally, over 310 water tanks have been distributed to schools in the area.
Omanyo highlighted the challenge of water scarcity in schools, which often forces students to spend significant time searching for water, affecting their learning.
She emphasized her commitment to addressing this issue by providing water tanks to enable schools to store water.
“We want our teachers and students to concentrate on their work so that we can achieve good results. Although we lack piped water, having water tanks helps us store water efficiently. Since my election, I have distributed more than 310 water tanks to institutions,” Omanyo said.
She also noted her ongoing support for local women entrepreneurs, having distributed over 4,000 umbrellas to mothers involved in business activities.
