Mbadi Vows Loyalty to Ruto, Rejects Political Debates

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President William Ruto, highlighting the trust and confidence the President placed in him when appointing him to the critical finance docket.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Homa Bay County, Mbadi emphasized that being entrusted with the Ministry of Finance was a significant responsibility and that betraying President Ruto was out of the question.

He added that his focus is on delivering results rather than engaging in political debates or pushing for future campaigns. “It’s not my job to force people into supporting Ruto for another term. My priority now is not to engage in such discussions,” Mbadi explained.

Mbadi also emphasized that his main goal is to resolve Kenya’s financial challenges and improve the economy. Once the country’s financial issues are addressed, he believes they can then ask for the opportunity to continue working in the future.

Since taking office, Mbadi pointed to notable achievements, including a significant reduction in Kenya’s budget deficit and stabilization of the local currency. He shared that when he took over, Kenya’s budget-to-GDP ratio was 8.1%, but it has since dropped to 4.3%, with expectations of reaching 3.8% next year. Within two years, he aims to reduce the budget deficit to below 3%.

Additionally, the Kenyan shilling, which had been as high as Sh160 against the US dollar earlier in the year, has stabilized at Sh129 per dollar. Mbadi also noted that government borrowing has decreased by 1.5% under his leadership.
