PS Muthoni Urges Doctors to Negotiate, Prevent Strike

Mary Muthoni, the Principal Secretary for Public Health, has urged doctors to reconsider their position and engage in negotiations with the government to prevent a potential strike.

Muthoni emphasized that the government is fully dedicated to addressing the key concerns of doctors, ensuring they remain available throughout the festive season. She stressed the importance of doctors being present during this time, particularly in saving lives, and encouraged them to engage in talks for a resolution.

Speaking in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, Muthoni also warned the public, especially women, to be cautious about the cosmetics they use, as some products may cause harmful skin conditions. She mentioned that the ministry is awaiting a report on unauthorized beauty parlors offering skin surgeries, which will soon be made public.

Muthoni recounted an incident where a Kenyan woman died after undergoing a skin surgery, and assured that the matter has been forwarded to the relevant authorities for investigation.

Additionally, she advised the public against using over-the-counter medications without prescriptions, as this can endanger lives. Muthoni also highlighted the importance of wellness screenings for early detection of diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

She urged people to register their families with the Social Health Authority (SHA), as this would provide emergency medical coverage. Muthoni reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that all individuals receive healthcare, regardless of their social or economic status, at any hospital level.
