British companies are expressing strong interest in investing in Kisumu County to capitalize on the area’s significant economic opportunities in agriculture and the blue economy.
Neil Wigan, the British High Commissioner to Kenya, emphasized Kisumu’s strategic position as the gateway to Uganda and Tanzania, offering extensive prospects for both local and regional markets.
During a meeting with Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o, Wigan outlined the UK government’s commitment to supporting British companies seeking investment opportunities in the Lakeside County.
His objective is to facilitate public-private partnerships between British firms and the National and County governments, aiming to unlock regulatory approvals and financing avenues for these enterprises. This initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities for local residents.
Governor Nyong’o welcomed the British companies’ interest, recognizing its potential to complement ongoing socio-economic development initiatives in Kisumu. He expressed readiness to collaborate with the British Government to streamline investment processes.
The County government has already established a framework for engaging with the UK government, with further discussions planned to expedite investment facilitation.
Moreover, the County has entered a Sh31 billion public-private partnership with a UK company, focusing on agriculture and climate finance. Consultations with the National government are underway to initiate this transformative project, which promises substantial economic benefits for Kisumu County.
