Kenyan Teacher Breaks Record with 62-Hour Science Class

Rose Tata Wekesa, a teacher at St Austin’s Academy Lavington, has made a remarkable entry into the history books by conducting the longest science class ever recorded, spanning an impressive duration of 62 hours, 33 minutes, and 34 seconds. Her extraordinary feat, achieved at the Multimedia University of Kenya, was met with elation from her students.

Wekesa’s endurance and dedication were evident as she persevered through sleep deprivation and fatigue to secure this remarkable victory. In an interview with local media, she acknowledged the immense challenge of the task, revealing that she and her support team meticulously planned the lesson. She disclosed undergoing a rigorous training regimen, including staying awake for 44 consecutive hours in preparation for the marathon teaching session.

Despite the daunting nature of the endeavor, Wekesa remains fueled by her passion for imparting knowledge to the younger generation. She encourages aspiring teachers to combine their enthusiasm for their subjects with patience for their students, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in the pursuit of excellence.

This achievement joins a prestigious list of remarkable milestones in the field of science education. Previously, records such as the largest science lesson, which involved 1,339 students under the tutelage of Steve McDonald at St. Louis University High School in Missouri in 2014, showcased the significance of science education on a grand scale.

Additionally, in 2020, British teacher Neil Monteiro set a Guinness World Record for the highest number of participants in a virtual science lesson, with 16,066 attendees.
