A group of criminals raided a church in Ilbilisi, Kajiado County, and stole Sh260,000 along with other valuables from a Korean missionary couple.
According to the police, the robbery occurred at the Elmarba Full Gospel Missionary Church in Kajiado. The gang, armed with crude weapons, entered the church early Monday morning by cutting the window grills. Inside, they found the two missionaries, Jongo Kim (64) and Young Me Kim (60), who were then tied up with ropes.
The robbers ransacked the house and stole four mobile phones, a wristwatch, two laptops, a gold necklace, a bracelet, a solar charger, Sh2,500, and USD20. They also transferred Sh248,000 from Jongo Kim’s M-pesa account and Sh12,000 from Young Me Kim’s account. To hinder investigations, the assailants took the CCTV hard drive with them before fleeing the scene.
The couple sustained minor injuries, including bruises on their hands. A black torch was found at the scene, and police are following promising leads. The authorities suspect the criminals were familiar with the couple’s activities before carrying out the attack.
The incident has been reported to the embassy in Nairobi as part of the ongoing investigation. Detectives are trying to determine who among the couple’s acquaintances might have had knowledge of their whereabouts and activities in the area, though it is unclear how long they have been living there.
Police believe the attack was carefully planned, as criminals typically target people with prior information about their victims.
