She expressed her commitment to remaining in government, asserting that her position allows her to develop the county effectively.

During her remarks on Tuesday, Governor Waiguru acknowledged the shifting political dynamics in the country.

“I have never been out of government in my life. Even before I ran for office, I was part of the government, and in 2027, I will still be in government,” Waiguru said.

She added that Kenyans will experience a new political energy in the 2027 elections, emphasizing that politics today is focused on development, rather than incitement or insults.

The governor also criticized leaders from Mt Kenya who are transitioning to the opposition.

Waiguru made these comments during the opening of a new health facility in Baragwi Ward, which will serve over 5,000 residents. The Kiandai Dispensary is expected to alleviate the burden on locals who previously had to travel long distances to access medical services.

The new facility will serve several villages, including Kiandai, Kiaruri, Kiangurwe, Ngenya, Githage, Rwathae, Ndu-ini, and Thimu, which were previously reliant on distant health centers such as Kianyaga, Kabare, or Gatugura.

Governor Waiguru described the opening of the dispensary as a key step towards achieving Universal Health Coverage, providing affordable, accessible healthcare, and saving residents the cost of traveling for medical services.

Waiguru has a long history in government, having served as the first Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, Director of the Integrated Financial Management and Information Systems (IFMIS), and head of the Governance Unit in the Ministry of Finance. She was also the chair of the Council of Governors from 2022 to October 2024.
