Torongo Girls School Shuts Indefinitely After Student Protest

Torongo Girls School in Eldama Ravine Subcounty was shut down indefinitely after students staged a protest against the transfer of their principal.

The students, voicing their discontent with the administrative change, marched over 27 kilometers to the Education Offices in Eldama Ravine to demand that Principal Christine Chepkole remain at the school.

In response, Koibatek Subcounty Education Director David Kipsang decided to send the girls home for their safety. He assured them that their concerns would be addressed during an upcoming meeting with the school board.

The main issue raised by the students was the recent reassignment of their principal to Kaptagat Girls School. The school board is set to discuss the matter before the students return.

Despite the protest, the students were praised for maintaining order and not causing disturbances. The school had recently achieved strong academic results, ranking second in the subcounty with a mean score of 7.46, just behind Baringo High School.
