Ruto to Fund ICT Hubs in Vihiga County to Tackle Youth Unemployment

President William Ruto has committed to fully funding the creation of ICT hubs in Vihiga County as part of efforts to tackle youth unemployment.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Luanda Modern Market on Wednesday, the President emphasized the importance of technology in empowering young people.

He urged the county government to fast-track the establishment of additional ICT hubs, highlighting technology as a crucial tool for economic empowerment.

“My goal is to ensure that our youth are well-equipped with computer skills, can earn an income, and contribute to the nation’s economic development,” President Ruto said.

He pledged to provide the necessary resources, including internet access, computers, and skilled trainers, to support the county’s young people.

The President also shared details of upcoming opportunities for Vihiga’s youth, such as the Luanda Market project, the construction of five new markets, and the development of 4,000 affordable homes.

“I will not bring people from outside to do this work. I will call on the youth of Vihiga County to take on these projects,” President Ruto stated.

In a recent speech, he emphasized that the internet is a tool for success, not for spreading insults or negativity.

“It’s there to create wealth, to improve lives,” he said, challenging critics who use social media destructively.

President Ruto encouraged young people to see the internet as a platform for entrepreneurship and financial growth, in line with his administration’s focus on tech-driven solutions to national issues.

The ICT hubs are part of the government’s broader strategy to generate employment opportunities for young people, along with affordable housing projects and labor migration as key measures to reduce youth unemployment.
