Ruto to Fly to Abu Dhabi This Evening for Global Sustainability Summit

President William Ruto is set to depart for the United Arab Emirates on Monday evening to attend the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit.

According to a statement from State House, the President will address the summit during its opening session, which will focus on “Exploring the Global Energy Transition.”

“He will showcase Kenya’s leadership in renewable energy, especially geothermal power, and explore opportunities for global partnerships to tackle energy challenges and promote green growth,” said State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.

The ADSW Summit is a prominent global forum that brings together world leaders to discuss sustainability issues.

Mohamed added that President Ruto will hold bilateral talks with key international leaders, including His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. These discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in energy, trade, investment, and technology—areas vital to Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The President’s visit is expected to culminate in the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Kenya and the UAE, aimed at boosting trade, investment, and development cooperation between the two nations.

The UAE is Kenya’s sixth-largest export market, particularly for products such as tea, meat, fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The CEPA is expected to simplify export procedures, improve access to markets, and encourage greater UAE investment in multiple sectors.

Ruto’s departure follows that of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who is also traveling to the UAE for the signing of the CEPA between January 12 and 17. The agreement is designed to strengthen trade, investment, and economic ties between Kenya and the UAE by reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers, ultimately creating a free trade area between the two countries.
