United Democratic Alliance (UDA) officials in the Nyanza region are expressing strong disapproval of Siaya Governor James Orengo’s recent comments targeting them.
Governor Orengo has been quoted stating that no UDA party officials would be permitted to address the public during events he attends.
Kennedy Obuya, the UDA party chairman in Homa Bay, characterized Orengo’s remarks as bordering on incitement and intolerance, emphasizing that such statements should not be tolerated.
Obuya argued that Orengo and others making similar statements are attempting to provoke government institutions into taking action, intending to garner political sympathy from the Luo Nyanza region and incite the public against UDA.
Representing UDA officials from Migori, Siaya, and Kisumu, Obuya asserted that the ODM party feels threatened by UDA’s growing popularity in the region, leading them to resort to questionable tactics.
Nevertheless, Obuya affirmed their commitment to persist in the ongoing registration of party members nationwide.
Recent incidents, such as the ejection of Ugenya MP David Ochieng and former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo, both UDA affiliates, from a burial in Siaya county attended by Orengo and ODM party leader Raila Odinga, have further escalated tensions.
