National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula was deeply moved as the body of his late mother, Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, was brought to their family home.

In an emotional moment, Wetang’ula paid a touching tribute to her.
“Placing my hand on Maayi’s coffin, I feel the weight of her love and sacrifice,” he said. “This is my final act of gratitude, a way of thanking her for a lifetime of care, guidance, and steadfast support.”
Reflecting privately, Wetang’ula added, “Though I can no longer hold her hand, I hold her memory, her wisdom, and the legacy she left behind. Rest in peace, Maayi. Your love will always be my strength.”
As they prepared to lay his mother to rest, Wetang’ula spoke of the profound love, wisdom, and strength she imparted to her family. Despite the sorrow they felt, he expressed gratitude for the cherished moments shared with her.
He noted that his mother’s death was not merely a loss but a celebration of an extraordinary life that impacted many. “As we journey home together, let us honor her legacy with love, unity, and the commitment to uphold the values she cherished,” Wetang’ula said, quoting 2 Timothy 4:7: “Our dear mother fought the good fight, she finished the race, and kept the faith.”

Mama Anne Nanyama was also the mother of Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi. Born on March 9, 1930, in the Babuya clan from Sirare Village, she passed away on December 20 after a prolonged illness.
A teacher by profession, Wetang’ula shared that his mother instilled values of respect, honesty, and trust in their family. “She was also a devoted farmer and a passionate advocate for equity. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi also mourned his mother, describing her as a wise mentor. “After a long battle with illness, Mama peacefully passed away, marking the end of a remarkable life filled with love, sacrifice, and unwavering faith,” he remarked.
