Ruto Appoints William Kabogo as New Information and Communications CS

President William Ruto has nominated former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as the new Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, following a significant reshuffle of his Cabinet.

Kabogo, 63, is set to replace Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, who has been redeployed as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana, pending approval by Parliament.

The reshuffle, which was announced by State House Chief of Staff Felix Koskei, is part of President Ruto’s broader strategy to realign ministries, state departments, and foreign service positions. This move is designed to enhance service delivery and optimize performance under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

“These changes aim to strengthen the government’s ability to serve Kenyans effectively,” Koskei said.

In addition to Kabogo’s nomination, the reshuffle also saw Kipchumba Murkomen, the former Cabinet Secretary for Roads, Transport, and Public Works, appointed to the Ministry of Interior. Murkomen will replace Kithure Kindiki, who has been reassigned as Deputy President.

Former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has been nominated to head the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, while Salim Mvurya will now oversee the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.

The reshuffle also included key changes to Kenya’s Foreign Service, with Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u appointed as High Commissioner to Ghana, Ababu Namwamba nominated as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON), and Andrew Karani designated as Ambassador to Brazil.

In the realm of state corporations, notable appointments include Ndiritu Muriithi as Chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority Board, Anthony Mwaura as Chairperson of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority, and Kembi Gitura as Chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital Board.

The reshuffle follows reports of a recent meeting between President Ruto and his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, at Kenyatta’s Gatundu family home. State House confirmed the two leaders discussed national and regional issues, marking their first direct engagement since their fallout.

“These nominations, reassignments, and appointments underscore the President’s commitment to aligning government operations with the needs of Kenyans,” Koskei added.

The nominations have been forwarded to the National Assembly for approval, in accordance with constitutional requirements.
