Three Children Die in Kericho Fire Tragedy

Three children tragically died in a fire in Kericho County.

The victims, aged between four and ten, were burned beyond recognition after the house they were locked in caught fire under unclear circumstances on Friday evening.

One of the children’s siblings had locked them inside while going to a neighbor’s house to play in Moburo village, Kapsogut location.

The fire destroyed the family’s main house, made of timber and iron sheets, leaving nothing salvageable. Authorities believe that the children’s parents, who were not home at the time, may have accidentally caused the fire by leaving a phone charging, which possibly exploded.

Villagers reported seeing thick smoke rising from the house, and when they arrived, the structure was already fully engulfed in flames. Efforts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful due to the dry timber and strong winds in the area.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, and the children’s bodies were taken to a local mortuary for autopsy and further examination.
