Duale: There Was A Planned Coup Against Ruto in June

Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has disclosed that a coup against President William Ruto was planned for June 25, 2024.

Duale stated that the conspirators aimed for a regime change but did not reveal their identities, claiming it wasn’t his responsibility to do so.

“On June 25, there was a planned coup. There was a serious scheme for regime change,” he stated during an appearance on Citizen TV.

On that day, protesters stormed the Parliament Buildings, prompting lawmakers and staff to evacuate, although they were eventually controlled by security forces.

Weeks later, the Interior Cabinet Secretary informed the National Assembly of a second attempt to set fire to Parliament, which was thwarted before it could occur. Duale mentioned that he plans to write a book about these events upon retirement, but for now, he is bound by Cabinet collective responsibility and cannot divulge certain details.

“When I retire, I’ll write a book. I’m still under oath regarding Cabinet matters, but I’ve mentioned there was a coup, which is tied to the impeachment motion’s national security charges,” he explained.

Duale also criticized Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for publicly questioning the country’s Intelligence Service and its leadership. He emphasized that such actions are unprecedented and serious.

“There are institutions in our country that should not be disparaged or criticized,” he stated, naming the National Intelligence Service, the security forces, the Kenya Defense Forces, the Judiciary, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, highlighting the NIS’s crucial role in national security and international intelligence collaboration.
