MPs Propose Additional Ksh.13B for NG-CDF

MPs are pushing to increase the NG-CDF allocation by an additional Ksh.13 billion despite the country’s financial challenges.

The National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriation Committee is reviewing proposed amendments to the NG-CDF Act, which would boost the fund available to MPs.

Wajir East MP Aden Daud’s amendments suggest changes to Section 4 of the NG-CDF Act 2015 to enhance funding. The revisions aim to expand the fund’s scope to include projects like the Sports, Arts, and Social Development Fund and Universal Service Fund.

Additionally, the bill proposes allocating up to 5% of the total constituency allocation for new development projects, including communication infrastructure.

Current NG-CDF allocations total Ksh.53.5 billion, with the amendments potentially raising this by Ksh.13.2 billion.

Budget and Appropriation Committee chair Ndindi Nyoro emphasized the importance of the NG-CDF for constituencies but noted that the amendments will undergo all legislative stages and will need approval from the National Treasury to ensure financial sustainability.
