Four members of UGM Party presidential aspirant David Maraga’s campaign team have been admitted to hospital after being involved in a serious road accident on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
In a statement, the former Chief Justice said the team was travelling back to Nairobi after escorting him to a funeral in Nyamira County when the crash occurred.

He explained that a lorry lost control, veered off the road and rammed into their vehicle while it was in its lane.
Emergency services responded swiftly, rushing the injured campaign staff to a nearby hospital for treatment. Photos from the scene show the vehicle they were travelling in was badly damaged.
Maraga, who is eyeing the presidency in the 2027 General Election, was not in the car at the time of the accident. He said he is closely following the situation and remains in constant communication with the injured team members.
“We are monitoring the situation closely and are in touch with our colleagues. We ask for your prayers as doctors and nurses attend to them,” Maraga said.
Before the incident, Maraga and his team had attended the funeral of Mzee Meshack Machuka in Nyamira. In his eulogy, Maraga described Machuka as a hardworking and widely respected man who served in various roles during his lifetime.
He noted that Machuka worked as a bus conductor in Kericho, later as a clerk at the National Cereals Board, before joining the teaching profession in Tanzania and Kenya, eventually retiring in 1996. He also served his community as a church elder, treasurer, clerk and deacon.

Maraga praised Machuka’s life of service and dedication, urging others to emulate his integrity and commitment, while offering words of comfort to the bereaved family.

The accident comes amid growing concerns over road safety during the festive season. Only days earlier, several people were injured in another crash at Magina Centre along the busy Nairobi–Naivasha Highway involving a bus and a lorry.
Authorities are yet to release further details on the condition of the injured campaign staff or the driver of the lorry involved.
